Crowdsourcing as an entry for week April 2- April 6.

2 04 2007

I know one type of crowdsourcing: I think it’s called Ireport on CNN. People from around the world report about the events happening in their own coutnry.

This gives the opportunity for ordinary poeple, civilians, not the journalists, to report about what happened and allows them to express their side of the story on the CNN. It is really interesting because I was once watching CNN and the channel showed pictures of a certain person who had his pictures shown on CNN for the best report and CNN chose his or her report and they (CNN) encouraged the viewers (all) to contribute to the CNN website their own stories with their version of a certain story that the journalists themselves might have missed.

I thought it was a goo opportunity for me to practice my skills as a journalist to shoot something and then write or record it and send it to the CNN website.

Who knows maybe I’ll get picked and maybe my recordings will be shown on CNN as a winner.. or maybe not… but still it’s worth a try… the mere fact that I am recording something and contributing to CNN and the reporters or whoever in CNN reading my contributions is really nice…

Also I think it’s an opportunity for every aspiring journalist to become famous or get his/her talents known to the world and the CNN! :) )

So I guess that’s one form of crowdsourcing…

There may be a dozen others… wikipedia can one too!… :) )

Experiencing the NITs

2 04 2007

It is intersting how NITs nowadays are used by people all over the world. It’s a very convenient source of Technology because it allows people to access information from anywhere and anytime thye want.

Recently, I read an article, checked out some music and read news and all of these on the internet! Just because techonlogy is advancing and developing further these techinical maneuvers can be made by human beings faster and at more ease!

Nits are a fascinating creation of human beings and a wonderful source of information for young and old.

Emails, Messengers, ICQ’s, payments, tests, all of thse can be done over the internet and it is truly amazing!!!!

Lately, young poeple have been creating their own websites, weblogs and other things over the internet that have given them access to other people around the world that they couldn’t reach otherwise. The world is connected through the NITs. However, I don’t believe that doesn’t make the world into a  global village.

There are still areas in the world that do not have internet, TV, or maybe even radio! I think it is unfair to say that the world is global village connected through the internet. There are still people whom many of us may not know of and may not have met with thei9r culture. So before saying that the world is global village, maybe poeple shold think first whether it is a global village or not. There are ethnic groups that still live in System 1: Hunting and Gathering system. ANd some people from the “civilized” world shun these people. That is not a global village… I would say… that is just considering the developed or developing countries as a part of a global village but not the entire world.
